The Story
FactExtract was built by a lawyer who spent twenty years reviewing other people's documents.
Civil discovery productions. Employment files. Government records. FOIA responses. Thousands of pages per case, with the facts that matter buried somewhere inside. The work was necessary. The volume was relentless. The risk of missing something critical was constant.
FactExtract exists because that problem finally has a real answer. AI can now read documents with remarkable accuracy, including messy scans, faded copies, and handwritten notes. What once required weeks of manual review can now be structured, searched, and analyzed in minutes or hours. If you have ever tried uploading voluminous documents into a chatbot like ChatGPT and asking for a summary, you know it is hit or miss. That's not what this is. Fact Extract has multiple layers that shape AI attention, locate data, verify its accuracy, and alert you to potential problems. It is built as a tool to speed review and provide simple intuitive human oversight and verification.
We built the processing service. Then we built the tools to actually work with the results. Fact Extract Desktop gives you search, timelines, collections, and AI-powered Q&A. All free, all local, all private.
You pay per page, per project, when you need it. No subscription. No contract. The desktop tools are free. Everything you download is yours.
How It Works
FactExtract uses advanced AI models to process your documents:

Upload: Securely upload your PDF documents. We accept individual files or entire productions.

AI OCR: Our AI reads every page, extracting text with high accuracy even from lower quality scanned documents.

Document Detection: To help make sense of larger productions, we can automatically detect where one document ends and another begins within a single PDF file.

Summarization: Each document is analyzed and key facts are extracted into a structured format you can work with.

Export: Download your results as an Excel spreadsheet and a searchable database. Open the database in our free Desktop app to search, build timelines, and chat with your data through your preferred AI provider. Your source files are already deleted from our servers.
Security & Privacy
We understand that your documents are confidential. That's why we've built security into every layer of FactExtract:
- All uploads and downloads are encrypted in transit.
- Documents are encrypted at rest in our secure cloud storage.
- Source documents are deleted immediately after processing.
- Output files are automatically deleted after 14 days. Delete earlier on demand if you like.
- We do not use your documents to train AI models, to market, to monitor, to improve our services, or for any reason other than to provide prompt private summarization to you.
- Our AI processing provider does not store prompts or responses. Your document content is not stored, logged, or used for training by any party in our processing chain.
Open Platform
Fact Extract uses open standards. Our SQLite database schema and JSON extraction structures are documented and available for anyone to use. Build your own tools, integrate with existing workflows, or extend the platform in ways we haven't imagined.
The desktop app connects to AI chat providers like Claude Desktop and AnythingLLM via the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Your data stays local. You choose the provider that fits your privacy requirements.
