Which upload type is right for me?
Start with PDF + Auto-Divide if you are unsure. It handles the most common scenario: large PDFs containing multiple documents. AI finds the boundaries for you.
Use PDF Upload (without Auto-Divide) when your files are already one document per PDF. You save the per-page boundary detection cost.
Use Database Upload when you already have clean, searchable text (native PDFs or documents you have already OCR'd). Import your PDFs into a free Fact Extract Desktop database first, then upload the database here. You skip the OCR cost and pay only for AI summarization. This also lets you add new extraction fields to a database you have already processed.

Fact Extract Desktop: Free
The Desktop app is your local command center. View, search, and analyze your results offline. Timeline visualization, collections, notes, and full-text search across all your extractions.
It also lets you import PDFs with existing OCR text into a local FactExtract database, which you can then upload here for AI summarization at our lower database rate. If you already have high-quality OCR from another tool, there's no reason to pay for it twice.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is pricing calculated?
Pricing is per page. PDF uploads cost 5¢/page for OCR and summarization. If you enable Auto-Divide for mixed-document files, that adds 5¢/page for boundary detection. Database uploads are 3¢/page since they skip the OCR step.
What's a "database upload"?
The free FactExtract Desktop app can import PDFs with existing searchable text into a local SQLite database. Upload that .db file here instead of the original PDFs, and we'll run AI summarization on the text you already have, saving you the cost of OCR processing.
Is the desktop app really free?
Yes. Fact Extract Desktop is free. You only pay for optional document summarization by FactExtract.Net.
Is my data private on FactExtract.Net?
Yes. Our AI provider does not store your prompts or its responses for any purpose. Your documents are processed and immediately discarded. We never train on your data. Output files are available for 14 days, then permanently deleted from our servers. Delete earlier if you like.
Is Fact Extract Desktop private?
Our Desktop app is completely private and does not communicate with us or third parties in any way. However, if you decide to use the Data Chat feature, you will be using your data with the AI provider you select.
Is Data Chat private?
Consult your AI chat provider for their privacy policies. Use AnythingLLM with a zero data retention AI provider for total privacy. Use Claude.ai for optimal Data Chat results. Consult your technical staff about using AWS Bedrock or Google Vertex to access the most private versions of Claude if needed. Ask about Third Party Inference in the Claude Desktop Application.
Can I add more fields to a database later?
Yes. Upload a previously processed database with a new extraction structure, and we'll add the new fields alongside your existing data. This is ideal for iterative analysis. Start broad, then drill into specifics without starting over.
Can I use my own tools with the output?
Yes. We use a documented, open SQLite schema. Build your own tools, write your own queries, or integrate with existing workflows. The Excel export works with any spreadsheet software.
Do you offer volume discounts?
Yes. We intentionally operate on a modest margin over our operating costs. However, we will try to accommodate your needs if you have a very large batch of documents or have an ongoing high volume. Contact us at support@factextract.net to inquire.
Will you install FactExtract on my private network?
Yes. FactExtract can be licensed and installed on a private network using either your own in-house LLM server or your securely provisioned cloud LLM provider. Hardware costs will vary depending on your enterprise's needs. Contact us at support@factextract.net to inquire.
How long does processing take?
Processing times may vary based on server load. Servers will be added as demand increases. You will receive an email when your results are ready. Generally, results will be ready on the same day and are often available in minutes or hours.
Can I try it before buying?
Yes. New accounts receive complimentary credits, enough to process a real document set and see the results for yourself.
What file formats do you support?
We process PDF files. If your documents are in other formats, our free Fact Extract Prep tool can convert folders of mixed files into PDFs ready for upload.
Can I bill this to a client or project?
Yes. Each job shows the page count and total cost. You might treat FactExtract as a project expense, like copying or scanning. Purchase history and receipts are available from your account.
